Alfalfa Greens Protein Powder (1lb.)

You know how some people are audiophiles and they can't stand anything less than pristine audio? Well, I think some people are the same way with taste. I am not. Taste is pretty low on the priority list for me when it comes to food in general and also protein powders. That being said, I think the unflavored unsweetened version of this is not too strong or too "grassy" at all. Don't get me wrong it is still grassy but it's not overbearing.

I bought this as a "custom mix" just so I could select to have it in the tub rather than the bag but I only put this alfalfa powder in my mix, no flavors or boosts or anything else. It would be nice if individual protein powders allowed an option to select a tub rather than a bag. It's not a big deal since I can just customize it but I think I prefer the tubs and they are easier to stick my hand in and less messy for me than the bags.

This has so much calcium and a good portion of the DV for iron too so that's a big plus for me, along with the obvious chlorophyll content because it's super dark green, almost black.

Now, maybe I could have knocked off one star for the texture. Yes, the texture is grainy. But what else would you expect? It's alfalfa- it's basically a dried and ground herb; of course it's grainy. But that's why I bought it- for its nutritional value as an "herb" in addition to the protein. Also, it's grainy in a way that is different from other protein powders that I've tried. I've had powders from the grocery store…

I love the ingredients, the price, and the concept of having my greens + protein all in one. But this tastes horrible and the powder does not dissolve. I’ve tried it with the recommended amount of water and milk and both times the powder never fill dissolved and I could barely finish it because the taste is so bad.

I might try one of their custom mixes but this one is not it. I know a drink like this is never going to taste amazing but I’ve had other protein + greens powders that were much more bearable.

So happy with the Calcium and Protein content. The Protein is a little less than some of the other bags I get but I'm not worried because I hit my intake just fine even though I eat plant based. Like the other reviewer said, it is a little sandy but no big deal really. However, I did listen to one reviewer and doubled the flavor (Cinnamon Bun) and big mistake, it was way, way too sweet and I didn't even use a full scoop. Maybe it just depends on the flavor but next time I'll just do regular because stevia is just too sweet for me. I'd rather it be grassy than too sweet but that's just me.
