Wednesday Weigh-In: Whey and Alternative Options

However, for many of us, it can be a daunting task when faced with what type of protein to pick for our specific goals or diet. With sensitive stomachs and dietary restrictions on the rise more than ever, which protein is best for you? Here, we’ve hand-selected 5 individual ingredients/formulas to help you along your journey to better health… and a happier stomach.


1. Vegan Protein Optimizer [Vegan, Non-Dairy]

For those of us who opt for a plant-based option, our Vegan Protein Optimizer formula was crafted to provide a perfect amino acid profile. The formula is 80% Pea Protein Isolate, 10% Hemp Protein and 10% Rice Protein Concentrate making it a great fiber-rich choice for those trying to build muscle or lose weight. Due to the double cold water cross-processing, unwanted fat and lactose are removed, meaning this protein works very well for individuals who can be quite sensitive to lactose or most dairy-based proteins (in fact, most users with lactose intolerance tend to work perfectly fine with this type of protein).

3. Egg White Protein [Non-Dairy, Paleo]

Sensitive stomach? Meet your match. Our Egg White Protein is not only an excellent source of protein for those on a weight-loss journey (24g per scoop and 0g of fat), but it is also a great hypo-allergenic option for individuals who cannot consume dairy (it’s also soy-free, gluten-free and derived from non-GMO eggs). This particular protein causes zero bloat, digests easily, and is made by removing all yolks from the eggs and spray-drying the remaining material into a functional food powder. Most flavors complement this protein quite nicely, though we do think Old-Fashioned Salted Caramel is a must-try (if you have not already, of course!).

Now, whether you choose this for health reasons or for dietary preferences, know it’s an excellent alternative to standard Whey proteins. Naturally, since it is plant-based (derived from peas), it will have a more earthy taste and smell. 5. Grass-Fed Beef Protein Isolate or Hydrolyzed Beef Collagen [Keto, Dairy-Free, Paleo]

If you’re still saying “no way” to whey, and plant-based options just aren’t your thing, try out our Grass-Fed Beef Protein Isolate.  Our Beef Protein Isolate is incredibly clean and sourced from hormone and antibiotic-free, grass-fed cattle, with an amino acid/protein content comparable to a Whey Isolate. It should be noted that the Beef Protein does have a slightly slower absorption rate and will digest less quickly than Whey proteins.
