Exfoliation for Skin Health

Good health doesn’t always have to start from the inside. There are plenty of ways that we can improve our outward appearance and general sense of well-being through external means, as well, including the process of exfoliation to build and maintain healthy skin. Exfoliation is the method of removing dead skin cells that accumulate over time, and can be performed through the use of abrasives like sponges and loofahs, or through chemical skin treatments. Read on for the health benefits and tips on exfoliation!

It is important to consider your skin to be just as important as any other living organ in your body. We should all work to improve our skin health to fight the effects of aging and to promote healthy looking skin that is free from toxic buildups that may lead to acne or blemishes. Exfoliation can help with these things as we shed away dry, dead skin and free open the pores.

Our skin cells go through a process of building and shedding themselves over the course of approximately thirty days. During this process, the cells change to become more acidic as they reach the surface, and when they die, they are used as a shield to protect the lower layers against the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and other elemental dangers. Skin cells are naturally shed throughout our daily activities, but exfoliation can help to hasten the process and remove unhealthy buildup.

Exfoliation is an easy process that can be performed daily using a few simple tools. The most common method involves applying a body scrub to a porous sponge, loofah, brush, or cloth. There are many popular brands of body scrubs that use all-natural ingredients and abrasives for a deep, thorough clean that will leave skin looking soft, smooth, and vibrant. Pumice stones can also be used for rougher areas, such as hands and feet. Men, in particular, should be sure to use an exfoliating facial wash to help unclog pores and avoid infection or inflammation of the skin when shaving. Advanced exfoliation methods include the use of acids or enzymes that are designed to loosen skin cells for easy removal. This method is most common in individuals that are looking to fight the effects of acne and other specific skin conditions.

There are many other ways things that we can do to help promote healthy skin while exfoliating, as well. Daily detoxification through healthy eating, nutritional supplementation, and proper hydration will work to flush out toxic buildups that may contribute to unhealthy looking skin while reducing the signs of aging. Always be sure to drink plenty of water and exercise daily to help cleanse the pores, followed by a deep clean to remove trapped oils and sweat that may lead to bacteria growth.
